Due to increasing crime on the Costa del Sol it is now more important than ever, that you feel secure in your home. Because the burglars are getting 'better' at sabotaging alarm systems, we advise you to have your alarm system checked as it might be out of date

Even though modern alarm systems are very easy to use, it often happens that clients haven't connected the system properly or forget that this kind of equipment needs to be maintained.

By the time you find out that you have not connected the alarm correctly or have forgotten to change the battery in the mobile attack-alarm, it might be too late.

The description below of how to use the electronic alarm system is to ensure that the system is properly connected in order to obtain the high security that you pay for.

  1. Remember that the level of security depends on:
    - Quality, number and position of the elements of which the system consists.
    - The user's knowledge of the system and its functions.
    - The thoroughness of the current system checks.
  2. Take the following into consideration when analysing the security of your home or business:
    - As the alarm system consists of electronic equipment, technical problems can occur - so, do not trust the system unconditionally.
    - Test the alarm system regularly. Remember to call Alarma Universal S.A. before testing.
    - The alarm system does not function without electricity and remember that the backup-battery only works for short periods of time.
    - Follow and trust the advice given by the professional staff of Alarma Universal S.A., who are qualified to design, install and maintain the system.

An alarm system will, like everything else, become outdated and systems are currently being developed to improve the technical equipment, to make it easier to use and thus to increase the level of security, e.g. systems which are connected and disconnected with a key are completely outdated.

You should have your security system checked frequently by one of our security consultants. The electronic alarm market is rapidly developing and burglars are very quick at obtaining information about the novelties within the security business. Therefore, you should choose a security company which
    offers state-of-the-art equipment.
Such a company is Alarma Universal S.A. Our alarm systems can be updated regularly offering the best defence against the burglars’ knowledge and continuously more advanced methods.

  3. Be careful with the keys to your property. The general opinion that security keys cannot be copied is incorrect. There is actually no key, which cannot be copied using the right tools. Do not let just anybody change your locks and make sure that all the new keys are given to you. If others have had the keys in their possession for long periods of time, it is a good idea to have the locks changed. We also advise you to have the alarm system code changed once a year - especially if other people know the code. Arrange the change of code with Alarma Universal S.A. whose technical department, in most cases, can change the code via the telephone line or GPRS.

  4. The alarm system is not only to be connected when you are absent from your property. It should also be connected at night, when you are asleep. Often the thief chooses to break in during the night, as he believes that the alarm system is disconnected. This way people are robbed of their valuables while sleeping or sedated by gas let into the bedrooms through an open window or a ventilation duct.

  5. If a mobile attack-alarm is connected to the system, it is important to remember that it functions only when the battery is working. This has to be changed at least once a year and tested every month, as technical problems can occur without your knowledge. Contact Alarma Universal S.A. before testing.

  6. An alarm system consists of the so-called security triangle: Detection, transmission and reaction. Does one of these elements fail, the level of security is reduced.

Detection is the alarm system at your property.
Transmission is the transfer of the signal to the control centre.
    Reaction is the call-out.

The alarm transmission can be made either via the telephone, the cellular phone or GPRS. To obtain maximum security the control centre receives the signal though both the telephone line and GPRS.

  7. In order to understand the function of the alarm, it is important to know how the system works. If the alarm goes off by mistake and is disconnected by using the keypad, the control centre will automatically receive a cancellation, which stops the call-out. You will be contacted for the personal code. If the control centre has not received a cancellation, the guard will turn up at the property and you will receive a call from Alarma Universal S.A. asking for the code. If the code is correct, the guard will return to the control centre.

  8. If the control centre receives a signal from the so-called panic button, the situation is also considered very serious. The guard is immediately sent to the property while the control centre calls you to obtain information about the incident. Unfortunately, the signal from the panic button is often sent by mistake, because the user does not handle the security system with due care. If the alarm is considered real, the police are immediately called as Alarma Universal S.A. is obliged to contact the police in such cases. It is, therefore, of great importance that the panic button is only used in cases of assault - and not just because a dog is barking or a suspicious car is parked in front of the house.

If the guard arrives at the property during an armed assault, the situation can easily get out of hand and become very dangerous, because the robbers feel threatened. This is the reason for calling the police. In cooperation with the police the guards will naturally try to help. In cases of assault it is important to keep calm and give the robbers what they ask for, as they are often high on drugs, extremely nervous and completely unbalanced.

  9. If the system enables you to send for a doctor or an ambulance, the control centre will contact you to learn whether you need a doctor or an ambulance. If you have not informed Alarma Universal S.A., which doctor is requested, the control centre will call the medical service at 061 whom we work with 24 hours a day. The guard will show the doctor to the property and assist as much as possible. You will have to pay for the ambulance and the doctor, and Alarma Universal S.A. carries no responsibility for your health insurance.

  10. It is vital that you cooperate with Alarma Universal S.A. and that you contact us if in any doubt. Friends offer well-intentioned advice, but it is always best to contact Alarma Universal S.A. and let our professional staff help you. This is the only way to obtain the level of security you need.

It is very important to have confidence in your security company - and that the security company can have confidence in you. This is obtained through cooperation and information.

Alarma Universal S.A. should possess keys to the property because you may not live here on a permanent basis and in case of power cuts or technical problems which might occur without your knowledge. Alarma Universal S.A. must, therefore, have access to the property. All keys are kept at the control centre and are only given to the technicians, in case of repairs, or to the guards in case of a break in. Otherwise the guards only possess keys to gates in order to carry out outdoor inspections.
